Tax Assistance Program - Financial Strategies for Working Families

TAP’s typical client is a single mother of two, struggling to support her family with an annual income of less than $15,000. She is representative of a growing number of working poor people in the Chicago metropolitan area, considering that:

  • 23% of working families in Illinois are low-income;
  • Almost 950,000 households in the Chicago metropolitan region earn less than $35,000 a year ; and
  • Nearly 360,000 households in the Chicago metropolitan region earn less than $15,000 a year.

Individuals who earn an annual income of less than $15,000 and families who earn an annual income of less than $40,000 are eligible for TAP’s services. TAP operates neighborhood sites throughout the city and surrounding suburbs in order to connect our programs and volunteers directly to residents of underserved communities.
