About the Tax Assistance Program
The Tax Assistance Program (TAP) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1994 that provides free, high-quality financial services to hardworking families in the Chicago area. Our programs help Chicagoland residents access important financial benefits. TAP’s services are provided by over 1,900 trained volunteers from Chicago’s largest companies.

We have three different programs:

- Tax Preparation Program: Have your tax return prepared and e-filed for free! If you meet our qualifications, services are available at 26 locations through Chicagoland.

- Financial Aid Program: If you’re thinking about college or returning to school, TAP can help you to complete an important form to see if you qualify for financial aid. You might be eligible for thousands of dollars in aid and TAP can help you fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form if you are considering higher education.

- Banking Services Program: If you have questions about opening a checking or savings account at a bank, representatives from area banks can answer questions and open accounts at TAP community sites.

Together, these programs help people through the financial maze. Read more about our programs, and if you have any questions, please call our hotline at (312) 409-1555.
